Good Afternoon,
There will be a YouTube Live Stream on the new PVAS YouTube channel on Saturday May 2nd with Erik Lucas owner of buypetshrimp.com and we will be discussing everything about shrimp. To keep the stream on track and not get muddled with comments the chat will be disabled but don't think this means you will not be able to participate in the event. This thread is here for you to post your questions about shrimp that you would like to have answered. Friday May 1st at 10pm I will collect all of the questions from this post and organize them so that way I can ask Erik the questions during the video so be sure to tune in. I will be working on the schedule for the stream with Erik this weekend and will update this thread with time of the stream.
Time: 2 - 3:30 pm on our new PVAS YouTube Channel

Very good program. Eric was knowledgeable and candid. The moderator did a good job of keeping things moving. However, there would have been time for answers to more member questions if the moderator used less time talking about his personal experience with shrimp.
I enjoyed the meeting today.... the idea of asking questions prior to the speakers appearance, does need some learning... i thought of questions during his talk...
so its almost like if you don't know about the topic you need to do some homework prior to the day....
of course I can always contact him separately after the fact and ask my follow up questions...
I have experienced two different clubs/lectures now and its apparent, that this may be the way to go for a while until we get back to normalcy...
all in all a good topic/meeting, and run well
Great meeting today. I really enjoyed hearing about all the shrimp stuff and spent a fair amount of time looking at the filters on each tank. very interesting setup. seems the pros tend to have redundant filters or water intakes. Looking forward to when we can all gather in person again. Stay Safe...

I watched and learned. Maybe I am overfeeding a bit and not culling enough. And maybe I will try some caridina shrimp.
Yes, that was very well done. PVAS goes high tech!
Very nicely done, guys!
how long does it take for the biofilm to grow when adding items to the new tank
when setting up a new tank, how long does it need to sit and cultivate before adding shrimp and would adding a couple of endlers etc quicken the process.
Would using a sponge filter that had soaked in an active aquarium help with this process.
When is the best time to purchase shrimp for mail delivery and how many would you order to set up a new colony
Assuming you are culling, to keep your colored strain going, do you need to feed "color foods" to maintain good color as well?
On breeding:
So you are keeping your shrimp happy, they are breeding for you and you have now got several different color variants in different tanks.
Now you want to try crossing your shrimp, (say a red to yellow, or orange to black for example)
are there dominant and recessive colors?
Does the progeny carry good color or muddled colors?
how many line breedings would one need to come up with a newer color strain?
obviously, there would need to be culling done, and taking the best of each generation to proceed, but has work been done to decide when a color strain is breeding true?
I would like to hear how to encourage shrimp to breed and how to maximize the output. I know most seem to breed anyway but I would like to hear what diet or conditions might help or produce better results.
I just went to the business page. There are some amazing pictures of shrimp.

I'd like to hear him talk about how aquarists can keep their shrimp breeding stock at a grade comparable to those that they bought, or even improve them. Also, which shrimp don't breed true? Why do breeders offer culls? Why would someone want to buy culls?
A little guidance on Calcium Chloride and Magnesium would be greatly appreciated. First, if it is advisable and secondly, if yes, what dosing amounts.
What type of filter do you like for large shrimp tanks? (Mattenfilters?)
