Michael Barber and I are already hard at work pulling together speakers for 2023. If you have seen speakers at other clubs or events or through other channels that you'd like to have invited to PVAS, please indicate them in this thread. Sometimes there is a multi-year lead time for international and domestic in-demand speakers. For example, we first tried to schedule Lucas Bretz in 2018. But sometimes the stars align and someone has availability sooner rather than later. We want to hear your thoughts.
You can also offer suggestions for extracurricular activities. The Smithsonian Amazonia Exhibit private tour is an example. We abandoned the outdoor pond tour at member's homes this year for a couple reasons, but I'd love to try this again next year.
Let us know your thoughts and it will shape our planning for the next couple of years programming.
Tai Streetman is a wonderful person who works with George Farmer and does amazing biotopes and photography.
Hi All, these suggestions are very useful. Keep them coming. 2023 is nearly finalized and will be announced in another week or two. Some of the below were able to be incorporated into the 2023 program. Some have longer lead times and are being explored for 2024.
Also late. It would be very fun but not very practical for 50 PVAS members to tour member fish tanks/rooms. Maybe a more feasible way to achieve something like this could be to have a few super fast (3 min?) lightening talks in a row all in the same format. Format could be something like here is a photo of my favorite aquarium and why, here is a photo of my favorite fish and why, this is my current favorite fish project and why. This also could be a simple way to include/encourage young people.
Any speaker from NANFA to speak on the husbandry of Native North American Fish in the home aquaria
This is a bit late but I would love if you guys did another amazonia tour in the near future. my favorite exhibit of all time!
I would like to hear from Eric Bodrock from all oddball aquatics if he is doing talks. alloddballaquatics.com
I would like to hear from Fish Boy. He is a Youtuber from NJ. fishboy3833@gmail.com His Real name is Tom Gallo. Here is his channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpJpBddbpb--c_A7Rgxsvlg/featured
Also he said he would be interested in speaking when I shot him a mail a while back. he just opened an aquarium store and he breeds a bunch of different types of fish.
Melanie Stiassny
Warning about thev"shrimp king," he bailed on another local club's event with almost no notice.
Are speakers who own mail order fish companies ok? (Maybe they can bring fish?). If so, the wet spot, aquatic clarity, Dave’s fish room.
or Gary Lange?
would be great to have Chris Lukhaup if he does come to the US this year.
I know its a stretch.. Gabe PoSada from Jack Watley Discus…
