Happy New Year!
Today we released the 2022 Program and it's chock full of wonderful speakers, workshops, and events. There are still a couple of TBDs for feature presentations as we await confirmation from invited speakers.
Here are some key items to note:
January meeting is on the 8th: We will be off with a bang in January (not tomorrow, the first Saturday of the month which is New Year's Day, but Saturday January 8) with Dr. Riva Riley who will be speaking about Corydoras social patterns.
Masking requirement: Fairfax County masking requirements are still in place and will be enforced at the January meeting. We don't know when they will be lifted. We will continue to monitor the situation and adapt accordingly.
Hospitality suspended: We will not be offering beverages or food at the January, February, or March meetings due to masking requirements and low demand. We will re-evaluate the situation for the April All-Day Auction and beyond.
Half-day shrimp event in June: Well, we didn't get to celebrate our 60th birthday with the Shrimp Extravaganza, but no matter, we remain undaunted. Erik Lucas will be joining us for an expanded June meeting to include both a feature presentation on keeping and breeding shrimp followed by a hands-on workshop on grading and culling shrimp. Erik is one of the foremost shrimp judges in the country. We will solicit volunteers to bring in their shrimp colonies to be evaluated as part of the workshop.
Outdoor pond visits: We are planning some outdoor pond visits in early summer. If you have an outdoor pond or tubs populated with aquarium fish and would be willing to have club members visit your house, please let me know. I have a list under construction. Given the driving distances, the pond visits will be scheduled on a couple different weekends.
All-Aquarium Catfish Convention: It's on, and we can't wait. Mark your calendars right now for October 7-8 for the convention and Sunday the 9th for the Fall All-Day Auction, all out at the Hyatt Herndon.
See y'all a week from tomorrow! In the meantime, visit the 2022 Program web page.
