Hello Everyone!
My name is Angela, and I am newly a member to the Potomac Valley Aquarium Society. I am fairly new to the hobby, but am eager to learn more. My favorite types of fish are catfish, all catfish, and anything else cute. I actually found out about PVAS from a nice man named Bill at a Petco, who mentioned the catfish convention and you guys when I was telling him how much I thought catfish were the best. I couldnt make last year, but I decided to join and support the group.
I had a tank at my parents a few years ago when I was living there, which I left behind with them and visit weekly. My first fish son, Squidward, still lives there happily. He is a type of synodontis catfish (not 100% sure) and got his name from the Spongebob tiki head decoration he first called home. He kept getting bigger, and I kept having excuses to get new, bigger tanks.
After moving to Northern Virginia, I waited until my husband and I bought a house before I decided to get another tank. I started with a 9 gallon last year, and have since gotten a 3 gallon for an angry black orchid male betta that hates everyone, a 14 gallon, and on Black Friday I got a great deal on a 60 gallon. Here are some pictures of my current favorite fish:
Finally, my husband got me my new favorite son, a baby fire eel, on Valentine's day this year. I still haven't come up with a proper name for him yet, so I just call him eel son. He is really small right now, so he's in the 14 gallon, where I can make sure he's eating and healthy, but eventually, he'll be moving on to the 60 gallon and then probably a bigger tank when he's fully grown. I was worried because he wasn't eating the frozen food the first week I got him, but I found out about live blackworms, and now he's kind of fat. They kind of gross me out, but anything for my eel son. It is really cool to watch him attack and suck them up like spaghetti though, which is what I call the worms, his spaghett'.
For a while, he fancied himself best friends with Shrimp.
Anyways, I apologize for all the pics, but once I started I couldn't stop. I show them to my friends, who indulge me, all the time, but I figure here is a good place to share them. I am excited to start attending meetings and plan to drag my husband, Daniel, to the upcoming Spring auction.
Thanks,
Angela
