This past winter, we got two pairs of these little U. S. natives for a 20 gal. tall.

Loaded up with hornwort, water lettuce, and a few crypts . . . seeded the substrate with black worms . . . fed baby brine shrimp now and then . . . and otherwise did at occasional water change.
We were very pleased to find a single fry flitting around on May 24th.

But after feeding baby brine shrimp more intently and following up with a bit more close observation, at least 6x fry were seen at one counting. Here's a set of four circled . . .

And here, if you can see straight, is a short video with at least 5x visible. The 6th one is still elusive. Lots of brine shrimp wiggling around. Hydra out of control . . .
I think that if I want to seriously go for these, I'll need to use two tanks, and pull adults out in order to raise up fry.
Here’s a snapshot of our countryside. When you live in the Shire...
That's very cool. I've always been interested in trying them. Are you using soft water in their tank? I know the Okefenokee has incredibly brown, low ph water (like 4.5, or something like that).
