While taking tropical fish out of my pond today, I found a native fish that is about 5 inches long. That was a surprise, because I've only put in native fish that are supposedly dwarf sunfish. This guy is no dwarf. I don't know what he is, but he is free to anybody who wants him. He's going in a bucket for a few days and after that have to figure out what to do with them.
If you got a native tank or pond and want him, please let me know. I live in DC, very close to Silver Spring. I could meet you at a location not too far away, if that helps. Here's a picture:
Looks like a warmouth sunfish (Lepomis gulosus) to me. https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wild/species/war/. .
Could that be a crappie?
(*snerk* Who names a fish 'crappie'? 🤣)
