Summary: I am looking to find some homes for fishes and plants!
Hello fellow aquarists and fish lovers. My family received military orders that require us to move to Japan for 3 years (hooray and yikes!). While I did downsize on our move to the DC area, I did keep a few smaller freshwater aquariums running, including a 46-gal bowfront aquarium, and an abundance of supplies. Unfortunately, I cannot take my fish to Japan. I also cannot in good faith bring these fishes to a PetSmart or Petco. This is where I need your help.
The 46-gal aquarium has been up and running in some form or another for over a decade. I cannot attest to the age of all of my fish, but I haven’t bought violet Corydoras since before 2010 – so some of them could be old. And some of the plants are massive. That being said, my #1 priority is finding them good homes with experienced keepers. I am planning on rehoming the living things first, and then likely selling all of my supplies/aquariums, as we have at least another 12 years in the service and moving with fish is hard! If you are interested in homing any of my fish and/or plants, please let me know! I am not necessarily looking for money, as homing them is my priority, but if you feel inclined to make a fair offer or donation, it’d be much appreciated (I heard startup costs in Japan are rough, so anything helps). I am located in Stafford, VA.
I will say this is a heavily planted tank, so I am not 100% on the numbers, but these are roughly the fish I have:
11+ Rummy Nose Tetras
3 Black Mollies
??? Panda Corydoras
3 Siamensis (True)
1 Golden Zebra Loach
4+ Otocinclus
6 Albino Corydoras
2+ Nerite snails
~4 ember tetra
2 female bettas (one rescued and still needs help)
??? guppy/endlers/hybrids (I can take pictures – there’s some cobra and other morphs in there jumbled together)
3+ Golden Mystery snails
3+ Striped Khuli Loaches
3+ Violet Corydoras
I also have ramshorn snails (SO MANY) some of which are “blue”. I know there are also Malaysian trumpet snails in the substrate.
Plants include anubias (medium and large), java fern, java moss, 1 variegated anubias, crypts (green and bronze), swords (amazon?), frogbit, a large piece of driftwood with plants (most of the java fern in the photos is on it), etc. I added some pictures to give you an idea of plants/sizes.
I am thinking of brining anything I cannot rehome to Nova Tropical in Dale City. Let me know if you have any other suggestions! Feel free to respond here, send me a PM, or shoot me an email at HeatherLNathanson@gmail.com.
Things I’ll be selling include: 29-gal/lid/metal stand, frameless 10-gal/lid, 10-gal/lid, heaters, misc. pumps (air and water), lighting: led and Fluval AQUASKY 2.0 15-24" and 36" - 48" (in use) and others, two well-loved fluval g3 (in use) and 1 new in box, 2 Fluval E300 heaters, breeding boxes, Fluval UVC in-Line Clarifier (1 new and 1 in use), décor, sponge filters, air tubing and valves, auto feeders, medications, food (hikari/nls/kens), power heads, chemicals
Update: everything will have a home with the exception of 3 black mollies, 1 golden zebra loach, and siamensis (1+). There are plenty of ramshorn and milaysian trumpet snails also! I also have some floating frogbit and a large 16"+ sword (maybe a Kleiner Sword of some sort - has some red in it).
Update:
Fish: I still have 3 black mollies, 1 golden zebra loach, a maybe on siamensis, a maybe on nerites, mystery snails, ramshorn snails, Malaysian trumpet snails.
Plants: Still have java fern and swords and a tiny bit of guppy grass.
Hello I am interested in the breeding boxes, sponge filters and food.
Do you have any plants or driftwood left?
Thank you,
Michael Truong
Looks like all of the fish have been spoken for except for the black mollies. Unless someone was looking for siamensis! I have a someone who will take them if no one else wants them. I still have snails (Malaysian trumpet, ramshorn, and golden mystery). Anubias and crypts are also claimed. I still have some swords, java fern, frogbit, and java moss. I also have a large piece of driftwood with java fern/moss attached. Not sure if there is anubias attached. And I have a smidge of guppy grass that I wasn't able to fully eradicate!
Hey Heather, im stocking a new 75 now so I can take a lot of the livestock. Im particularly interested in the Crypts, Corydoras, Otos, and the khuli loaches (Mine need more friends).

Hi Heather- when are you moving? Maybe the April auction is an option?
What temperature have you been keeping the tanks?
(Also, I'd be interested in some of the plants and fish; I'll send a DM)
