I also learned that a week is not long enough to cure silicone. I used it to attach the gravel to the loach lounges. Didn't smell the acetic acid for a couple of days, thought it was fine and thought nothing of it until the day I was going to buy the fish and the pH wasn't 6.6 anymore. It was 8.4! But the LFS tested the water - I couldn't believe the jump and the drop test (8.4) didn't match the dipstick test (6.8) - and their test (also a dipstick) said 7.3. Soooo, the LFS didn't have blue gouramis so I had to go to PetSmart where the pH was 8.8 (I measured it in the bag when I got them home.)! I just went with the drop test and dripped them until they were the same. Now, I can slowly decrease the pH until it is time to bring in the rummy nose tetras. A flock of 50 will be amazing!
Hi JoAnn, didn't realize you moved again. No surprise blue gouramis went with you. Fingers crossed that the tank is settling down nicely.
great tank!!!
