Overview

PURPOSE

The Potomac Valley Aquarium Society is a not-for-profit educational and social organization. The society was founded in 1960 for the purpose of furthering the aquarium hobby by the dissemination of information and advice, and the promotion of good fellowship among the members by organized activities and competitions.

MEETINGS, EVENTS, AND ACTIVITIES

PVAS meetings are generally held on the first Saturday of the month from 1 -5 pm in the cafeteria at:

Green Acres Community Center
4401 Sideburn Road
Fairfax, Virginia 22030

Join us for the presentation, raffles, and our (not-so-mini) mini-auction. If you have aquarium hobby questions, there is always someone who can provide answers.

All-Day Auctions are held on Sundays (not Saturday) twice per year in April and October in lieu of the monthly meeting. The March meeting usually falls on the second Saturday of the month, not the first, to accommodate the Capital Cichlid Association Big Fish Deal. Every July, we host a Bowl Show competition and Indoor Barbeque Potluck at the monthly meeting in lieu of the normal presentation. The July meeting is scheduled to avoid conflicting with the 4th of July holiday weekend. Every December, we have our Holiday Party and Potluck Dinner in lieu of the normal presentation. Demonstrations may replace the presentation at either the August or November meeting. Every other year, PVAS hosts the All-Aquarium Catfish Convention at the Hyatt Regency Herndon near Dulles Airport. In addition, throughout the year we schedule special activities for our members such as trips to the fish room tours, National Aquarium visits, fish store hops, visits to other clubs, collecting trips, and much more.
